This chapter discusses how the profusion of languages that the bank uses to define its products takes place in an environment that is highly competitive. The trading room in itself is a market with a fierce competition around the allotment of its most profitable sectors among the traders. Aside from financial instruments, skills are also being traded in the room. Each operator prefers to be outfitted with the most lucrative line of products, but faced with a strong hierarchy the operators themselves end up circulating from bank to bank in much the same way as products circulate from the bank to the client. Thus, these two parallel circulations in the space of the trading room and beyond create unprecedented competition.
